Welcome to the website of Joseph Winn MSW, LICSW. If you have found this site, it is likely you are looking for a psychotherapist. Choosing a therapist that you feel comfortable with, is experienced in treating the issues you are confronting, and is easily accessible can be challenging. This process is even more significant when one considers the commitment of time and financial resources that psychotherapy requires. It is my hope that the following pages will provide you with information about who I am, my professional credentials and the issues that I specialize in treating. This site will also provide you with information about the types of insurance plans that I accept, my self pay rates as well as a community resources page.

I graduated from the Boston University School of Social Work in 1995, with a Masters Degree in Social Work. The Masters Degree in Social Work, or MSW, allows one to provide mental health services to individuals, families, couples, and groups. Clinical Social Workers are the largest providers of mental health treatment in the United States. I am currently licensed in Massachusetts as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, or LICSW. The LICSW is the highest level of licensure provided to social workers in Massachusetts.

In addition to my MSW, I have completed extensive post-graduate training in the treatment of domestic violence, substance abuse and sexual addictions and compulsivity. My practice is also GLBT welcoming and affirming. I am currently beginning the process of working towards certification as a sex therapist, and work regularly with individuals and couples who struggle with negotiating the complex relationship between sexual and emotional intimacy. I am a member of several professional organizations that focus on my areas of specialty, and remain active in learning and applying the most recent developments in these fields.

I have consulted with several organizations on issues such as domestic violence, substance abuse and sexual compulsivity and the ways in which family dynamics are affected by these issues. I have developed several courses and training curricula focused on teaching graduate students in social work, psychology, and mental health counseling how to assess, intervene and treat individuals, couples and families.
